At the threshold of adolescence, identity remains in suspension: when the bathroom becomes the liminal space of an inner transition and the mutability of the self.

In this work from the Behind the Obvious series, Abraham Aronovitch develops a nuanced analysis of inner transition and the plasticity of identity. The scene unfolds within the recurring space of the bathroom, where blue-toned pre-adolescent silhouettes embody a moment of waiting and identity in suspension. Their hesitant postures convey a period of threshold, capturing the instant in which identity is shaped precisely through uncertainty.

Here, the artist examines self-acceptance within a contemporary context marked by the gradual erosion of binary categories. The visual minimalism of the composition establishes a tension between being and appearance, allowing the silent movement of an ongoing psychological transformation to surface. By integrating technological elements (LED, polyethylene) into the painting, the work emphasizes the hybrid and shifting dimension of this search for self at the threshold of adulthood.
